The Chronologia window has three main columns and a toolbar.

Calendars sidebar — Turn bundled and personal event packs on or off. Use the controls at the bottom to add or reload event packs.
Calendar view — Browse dates in a month, year, or multi-year view. The content changes when you switch between Grid and Fasti display styles.
Inspector — Review information about the selected day or event. The Day tab shows calendar conversions, astronomical events, feast days, and enabled historical events. The Event tab shows event details and editing controls.
Toolbar — Move backward or forward, jump to a date, choose display options, or search for a historical date or event.

Move backward or forward

Use the left and right arrow buttons in the toolbar. Each click moves by the unit shown in the current view: one month, one year, or one step in the multi-year view.

Jump to a date

Enter a date in the field between the arrow buttons, then press Return. Chronologia accepts year and month forms as well as era notation, including examples such as:

Astronomical year 0 or a negative year

The era badge beside the field shows the notation currently in use.

Search

The search field at the right side of the toolbar searches several kinds of historical information at once. Start typing at least two characters, then choose a result to open its date in the month view.

Each result is marked Date, Feast, Regnal, Consular, or Event so that you can see how Chronologia interpreted the query. Up to twelve results are shown.

Dates

Chronologia interprets a date in the calendar currently selected under View Options. Examples include:

Astronomical events

Select a day, then look under Astronomical Events in the inspector’s Day tab. Chronologia lists events whose calculated instant falls on that day.

Astronomical events are displayed automatically; event-pack settings do not affect them.

Seasons and Moon phases

Chronologia can show:

March and September equinoxes
June and December solstices
New Moon
First Quarter Moon
Full Moon
Last Quarter Moon

The time beside these events is labeled TDB: Barycentric Dynamical Time. It is an astronomical time scale, not your local civil time.

Work with event packs

Event packs are collections of historical events. They appear in the Calendars sidebar.

Show or hide a pack

Select the checkbox beside an event pack to show its events in the calendar, inspector, and search results. Clear the checkbox to hide them. The count below each name shows how many events the pack contains.

Bundled packs are supplied with Chronologia. Personal packs appear under My Event Packs.

Work with events

View an event

Select an event in the calendar or in the Day tab of the inspector. Chronologia opens the Event tab, which can show the event’s date range, description, categories, links, and sources.

Create an event

Double-click a day in the month or year view. Chronologia opens a new event form with that date selected.
